Re: Klickwood Athletic Cooperative – High School Girls Volleyball
As an athletic cooperative, Klickitat and Glenwood have been combining to form high school girls and boys athletic programs. The past two seasons, Trout Lake has been a member of the Klickwood Co-op. The OSAA will no longer allow all three schools to compete in a cooperative at the 1A level. This would have forced a bump up to 2A if maintaining a three school Co-op. As a result, a Co-op for volleyball with all three schools is no longer feasible.
In October of 2023, each school board adopted an amendment to the existing cooperative agreement that outlined participation numbers required for a cooperative team to continue. The agreement stated that at least 9 members would be required for girls volleyball and 8 members for basketball. Each of the past two seasons, there have been insufficient numbers to offer a girls basketball team.
The upcoming volleyball season for the 2025-2026 school year does not meet the required numbers to provide a combined “Klickwood” volleyball team. Beginning in the 2025 volleyball season, both Klickitat and Glenwood will look elsewhere in order to provide opportunities for our girls to participate in volleyball.
This decision came about after the annual March cooperative meeting. This meeting included the Superintendents of both schools, the high school Head Volleyball Coach, the athletic director of both schools and a student representative from Klickitat. After extensive discussion and looking at future projections, it was decided that the best course of action was for Klickitat to seek a cooperative opportunity with Lyle and Glenwood would seek to form a volleyball cooperative with Trout Lake.
This recommendation was presented to both school boards for approval. The Glenwood school board approved this recommendation at the Thursday, March 20th meeting whereas Klickitat approved this proposal at the Wednesday, March 26th meeting.
The timing of this decision commenced due to league scheduling for the upcoming volleyball season. Because this has the potential to alter the league schedule, it was important to give everyone affected ample time to make necessary adjustments.
As the school year comes to an end, more information will be forthcoming outlining the process moving forward.
