Bob

Glenwood Students and Families,

It’s almost time for school to start back up! Our first day of school is just two short weeks away, and the Glenwood staff has been busy getting everything ready for teachers and students to return. I am excited to be a part of the Glenwood team and want to also introduce some new team members.  While some of you know Catie Kielman as a Glenwood parent or assistant custodian, we are pleased to introduce her as our new school cook! Ms. Catie brings a fresh vision to our food service program, and I am confident her years of experience as a professional baker and assistant school cook will be evident as she strives to continue the tradition of excellent meals for students and staff. I also want to introduce and welcome Amy Lomax and Jessica Marino, our new ESD112 Special Education teacher and para-educator. We also have a new College & Career Readiness Advisor, Phoenix Dorsey-Billy, funded through the Gates Horizons grant and providing support for our seniors throughout the year.

In many ways this school year will be a continuation of and building on the progress of the Glenwood team and Ms. Mengarelli from the past few years. But as is natural, some things will be changed up in our ongoing efforts to improve the educational experience of our students. Over the course of the next several weeks, we will share information about our developing Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), school safety Standard Response Protocol (SRP), and other ways we will be upgrading our operations and supports.  I also want to be up front about the continuation of the previous school policy regarding student use of cell phones: When students are in class during the school day they will not be allowed to use cell phones.

With that out of the way, let’s talk about some firsts:

First Day of School – Wednesday, August 28

First Day of Preschool – Tuesday, September 3 First home volleyball game – Thursday, September 12 @ 5pm

I also want to invite all students and families to join me for a Back-to-School Ice Cream Social Monday, August 26, from 3:30 – 4:30pm in the school cafeteria. This will be an opportunity for me to get to know some of the students (and them to get to know me a little) before the first day of school. Cook Catie will be helping serve ice cream sundaes and root beer floats!  I hope to see you there!

With anticipation,

Bob Rogers, Superintendent/Principal
